Our Mysterious History
Many books have been written and several documentary films made about the mystical village of Rennes-le-Château. And still more is being discovered and revealed.
Les Labadous lies just south of Rennes-le-Château, ten minutes' walk down from the main village. Les Labadous is an ancient Occitan name meaning "washing place", a place for cleansing and purification. In the old days people used to wash their clothes in the Couleurs stream and carriage horses would drink from its clear spring waters. The surrounding landscape is rich, wild and abundant, part of a natural arena that is still unspoiled and pure. It is the perfect environment for walking, for enjoying the beautiful flowers and trees or for losing yourself in daydreams by the water. For those interested in history or archaeology, or intrigued by mysteries, this region offers riches beyond gold. Traces of a rich and turbulent past are everywhere to be found: on the mountains, in churches and castles, in the narrow streets of the villages and cities and in the many caves and natural springs.
